With new provision of Afghan Transit Trade Agreement, the accessibility to CIS via Pakistan is a new avenue that offers opportunity for the transport and freight forwarding industry of Pakistan. Pakistan will operate as a hub for services to CIS for the shipment of goods to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and some ECO member countries.
The “CIS” trade, under the quadrilateral agreement , through the Karakurram highway , may take place any time , once the road transport permits, by the four (4) governments entering into the agreement, are issued to their respective approved road transport carriers . It is hoped that lot of in transit cargo, both ways, will have to be handled through the Krakurram highway. In order to achieve the objectives of the “safe” transportation, for the traffic in transit , under the quadrilateral agreement, the multi-modal transport system, based upon the combination of road, rail, sea and or air will have to be involved.
